Tips for Parents

Equipping Parents: Shifting from Screen-Reliance to Core Skill Building

As educators, we are seeing the direct impact of the digital age in our classrooms every day: overstimulated nervous systems, low frustration tolerance, and children who struggle to focus without a constant stream of high-dopamine media.

When we coach parents, our goal isn't to judge or minimize their exhaustion. Modern parenting is incredibly demanding, and devices often feel like the only survival tool available. Our role is to empathetically guide them toward understanding why replacing emotional regulation with a screen alters a child's development, and to give them the practical strategies they need to build resilient kid

Shifting Focus to Core Developmental Needs

When collaborating with families, encourage them to prioritize foundational, real-world experiences over digital entertainment. Remind parents that children thrive when they are given:

  • Active Linguistic Engagement: Prioritizing books read to them and interactive, face-to-face conversation over passive background media.

  • The Gift of Boredom: Helping parents understand that unstructured, screen-free time is the literal birthplace of imagination and independent play.

  • Predictable Boundaries: Helping families establish routines where hearing "no"—and gently learning the reasoning behind it—feels safe, secure, and expected.

Coaching Parents on Classroom and Life Readiness

We can empower parents by giving them a clear, actionable checklist of foundational life skills to work on at home. These are the building blocks that allow us to actually teach academic concepts like the ABCs:

  • Independent Self-Care: Mastering basic personal hygiene and participating in daily routines like packing a lunch.

  • Social Regulation: Practicing sitting attentively at a table, waiting patiently for a turn, and taking responsibility for cleaning up their own messes.

  • Emotional Stillness: Learning to navigate quiet, unentertained moments without relying on an immediate digital distraction.

By equipping parents with these coaching points, we aren't just making our classrooms more manageable—we are partnering with families to restore the vital real-world connections children need to grow.
